Software Updates For Your Vehicle and Who Needs Them

The software updates are designed for anyone with a vehicle that has SYNC 4 or SYNC 4A installed. As new versions roll out on vehicles, you’ll be able to update those programs as well. The updates add fixes for any issues the program has as well as including new features. Updating is simple with the choice of scheduling it or allowing automatic updates. You’ll be notified as new updates are available.
With scheduled updates, you select the time when you’re not using your vehicle. Some updates require your vehicle to be shut off for 45 minutes or longer. You can update overnight if the vehicle is parked during those hours or at another convenient time. Once the update is finished, you’ll have access to the details and find out what’s been changed.

Setting Up Automatic Updates in Your Ford

The choice for Automatic Updates is already enabled on SYNC 4 and SYNC 4A. You just turn it on by going into Settings and selecting System Updates. Toggle the button to ON for automatic updates to work. If you want to schedule your updates, you go to the same place on your settings. Select Schedule Updates and choose the day and time you want. Once you save your selection, it will perform the updates at that time if any are available.
You may be required to connect to a local Wi-Fi network if internet access is required. You’ll pair the vehicle with the network, but you must know the password. For these updates, you must leave the engine running.
If you download the FordPass app to your phone, you can find out about available software updates. Just add the VIN to the account to get notifications about updates. Visit the Ford owner's website to find out more information as well. You can also see updates on your dashboard where you’ll be notified before the update happens. Once it begins, it cannot be canceled.
